Playing A Musical Instrument Can Give You A Hip Look
Doesn't a sax look cool? Just holding the axe can give a person a look of hipness. Coltrane album covers are extra sharp when he is shown playing his tenor or soprano. Miles Davis looked good standing alone, but when he put a trumpet in his hands, the look was three shades of fine.
Some instruments look cooler than others. If I had to rank the top three instruments pertaining to CLF (coolness look factor), it would be as follows:
1) Sax
2) Acoustic Bass
3) Guitar
Some instruments definitely do not have a cool look. Some present a very unhip image. When a student is pondering the type instrument to learn to play, he or she should definitely consider the CLF before choosing.
Carroll Hall (Dad) playing his merry melodica
(A wiser instrument choice would result in a higher CLF)

You need to teach your father how to play another instrument. That thing he is playing in the picture is troubling. He is really cute nevertheless.
David, you are absolutely right. His matador dance and hot use of the maracas are quite a spectacle to behold. I have yet to capture that on film, but am looking forward to snapping that action photo shot someday.
I witnessed the elder Hall play his maracas last year at the restaurant. It was an experience I'll never forget.
Can he play a polka on that thing?
One of the highlights of the show is when Carroll plays melodica while David blows the bubbles. You can't get that level of entertainment just anywhere. Love ya!
When he gets REALLY inspired while playing his melodica, I've seen him elevate it over his head as he plays. Incredible. That's about as good as it gets.
